Opera Productions

Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music endeavours to mount a full opera season every second year, with the aim of giving our advanced Classical Performance Voice students the experience of performing in a fully staged production. Other students from the Vocal Ensemble and Stagecraft courses are involved as well, in chorus or appropriate roles, and the production is coordinated with these classes so preparatory study and some rehearsals can occur during class time.

In every other year the students present an evening of operatic excerpts, fully costumed, lit and staged, ensuring that over the duration of their studies they have prepared and given significant performances of arias and ensembles from a wide range of  repertoire – from Baroque to contemporary opera.

This continues the long tradition (prior to 2006) of opera productions mounted by both Victoria University's School of Music (Opera Victoria) and Massey University Conservatorium over the past 25 years.
